ABOUT OUR COMPANY

Aroma Coffees was founded to connect the UK coffee industry with Ethiopia — the birthplace of coffee. We import raw green specialty beans from some of Ethiopia’s most respected regions, starting with Sidama and other well-known origins.

We work closely with producers and exporters in Ethiopia to ensure our coffee is ethically sourced, traceable and high quality. With strong cultural ties to the region, we’re proud to share Ethiopia’s coffee heritage and distinctive flavours with roasters, cafés and coffee suppliers across the UK.

Why Ethiopian Coffee?

Ethiopia isn’t just a coffee-producing country — it’s the birthplace of coffee itself. With centuries of cultivation and tradition behind every harvest, Ethiopian coffee is known around the world for its exceptional quality, distinct flavour, and cultural significance.

Unique Flavour Profiles

Ethiopian coffees, especially from Sidama, are renowned for their vibrant, complex notes — often fruity, floral, tea-like, and delicately sweet. The diversity in taste comes from Ethiopia’s heirloom varietals and microclimates, offering flavours you simply can’t replicate anywhere else.

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sidama sits at high altitudes ranging from 1,500 to over 2,200 meters above sea level, creating the perfect environment for slow bean maturation and rich flavour development. The region’s volcanic soil, ample rainfall, and natural shade support healthy, nutrient-rich cherries.

Traditional Processing Methods

Most Sidama coffees are washed (wet-processed) using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. This method brings clarity and brightness to the cup, highlighting the bean's natural characteristics — from jasmine-like florals to citrus and stone fruit undertones.

Global Reputation

Sidama is one of Ethiopia’s most famous coffee-growing regions, recognized with a protected Geographical Indication (GI). Specialty roasters and buyers across the world seek out Sidama coffee for its traceability, cup quality, and consistency.
